Capital and Annual Campaign Update

The Academy of Fine Arts moved forward in the fiscal year which ended 9/30/07 to sustain its operations through the annual fund and to strengthen its renovation fund for the Academy of Music Theatre through its capital campaign. More than $2,500,000 was obtained for these two efforts from all levels of government as well as individuals, foundations and corporations. The fiscal year successfully concluded with the Academy of Music's third Beaux Arts Ball, under the leadership of Friends of the Academy whose President is Cathy Sackett.

Support from a diverse array of sources is vital to the success of the completion of a center for the arts. Past contributors had the vision to lay the foundation in the creation of a cultural arts complex in Central Virginia. Please join this group in their support of this project! The future of the arts for generations to follow depends on support from all central Virginians.

  • How can you help?

As we begin our new fiscal year, donations are needed for both operating and construction. Donations to the Annual Fund are made on a year to year basis to cover day to day operations. Our new fiscal year began October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007.

Capital Campaign funds, which cover expenses incurred during construction, can be spread over a four-year period if $1,000 or more.

  • How can you give?

Donations of cash, pledges, and stock are traditional ways to contribute. Bequests and charitable trusts leave a lasting legacy to ensure the future of the arts for generations. Consult your financial advisor to determine which type of charitable trust works for you.

  • Why give?

The obvious answer is to support the arts. The AFA will offer productions and workshops for youth. Teens will experience contemporary music and dance from local and regional performers. College students and adults will enjoy a wide range of comedy, contemporary, pop, traditional and world music. Broadway musicals, comedy, jazz, pop, dance, opera, chamber, symphony, country, gospel can be expected on any given weekend.

Be assured that naming opportunities promised to Academy of Music donors in the old campaign will be honored in the new Academy of Fine Arts. There are more naming opportunities for the Studio Theatre and Arts & Education Center available. As the design work is completed for the historic theatre, connectors, and Lynchburg Gas Building, additional opportunities will be created.
