Dympna de Wild
Oils, Monotypes and Sculpture

February 5-26

"In Ingmar Bergman's movie 'Through a Glass Darkly' the front porch of an old seaside cabin is transformed into a theater for one night after standing empty during the long Nordic winter. In the play, within the movie, a brother and a sister exchange profound sentences about love and death. The sister collapses into madness afterwards, but that is another story. While watching the movie I could smell the weathered boards of the interior of the cabin, the salt water and the wet bathing suits. Behind the stage and obscuring the horizon, is a dark line of pine trees on one side and the sun skimming the ocean on the other. It must have been close to midsummer night.

"I imagine my interior spaces waiting for a similar moment, when a few travelers will stop by and pause. I expect to be among them and show fragments of my self, either through my photographs, monotypes of mixed media work. I create spaces that protect me from storms and from the harsh reality of my fleeting existence. I work mostly from imagination and memory to expose what I encounter in my dreams and undefined (always to be defined anew) expectations."

Opening Postponed due to weather: Join us for LAST Friday, Feb 26, 5-8pm.
Music by The Sophistokatz - Vocal Jazz Standards

Added feature for this First Friday!! Come see roving caricature artist: "Caricatures by Jed".
Jed has been drawing as long as he can remember. As an aspiring artist, he received instruction from his father Steven, a nationally renowned portrait artist, and from his cousin Franz, who taught him a great deal about rendering the human figure and drawing superheroes. In 2004 he was introduced to the world of caricature entertainment, and there he quickly found a home. Jed's caricatures make people laugh without doing irreparable damage to their self-esteem and make a great addition to any event.
